Artist's Comments

This is my very first Spacescape piece. I originally made this for my final project in Typography class (which I just turned in yesterday afternoon); it was for a magazine spread. I know it's not all that great, but I'm pretty damn proud of it. Thanks go out to Qzma, SilkAssassin, Supremacia, Alpha Leader, dilekt, Xiion, and alyn for their tutorials and inspiration. Thanks also go out to the creator of the cloud brushes that I used as the nebula (I can't remember the name at the moment, but if someone could give me a name, I'll try to thank them personally). The entire thing was created in Photoshop CS2 and is composed of 7 layers, counting the background layer. This is the 4th version of this image. Feel free to give me feedback as to how to improve this. Also if you for whatever reason want to use this in something that you make, all that I ask is that you give me credit for it, and let me know about it of course. Okay, I think that's all. I'm tired and I have classes in a few hours, so yeah. Just thought I'd post something for once. Later...

I like the planets, especially the one that is closest to us, i love the texture on it...did you use a tablet or is it only with the mouse?

I wish I had a tablet...the texture on the largest planet was created from a flat texture image (very high resolution). The trick is to use the elliptical marquee tool (hold shift to make a circle) and select an area. Copy the selection to a new layer and paste. Then just "Spherize" once or twice on it to make it look realistic. The modeling on the planet was a bit harder, but that'll be for another time. Just look up the artists that I listed on the artist comment, and you'll find the tutorial that I used to make the planets and the star. And thank you, by the way!! :hugs:

This summer I should have more time to work on all that....now at least I have the laptop for it...

I really like it. I would try to add a little bit more color in the sky. When I say color, I mean different depths on the two colors you have with the nebula dust and the opaque background. I really like the planet closest in the picture. And then the red one third from the foremost. But the second closest one, you might want to try softening the shadow a little and adding more texture on the top. And also maybe add more texture to last planet.

Sorry... didn't mean to critique. It's really impressive for your first spacescape!

It's cool. I appreciate your feedback! I intend on improving on these as time progresses. Actually, there are three colors in the background, I just tried to make them similar so it wouldn't be so obvious; I guess I did too good of a job on that. As for the planets, the closest one is the only one I'm proud of, as it actually turned out the way I wanted it. The others were a royal pain to create, but I was pressed for time, so I just went with it. But, I will try to improve on these. Thanks for your advice and support! *hugs* :-D

You're welcome ^^
